#FiveFavesFriday: Goofy Movies

So far I’ve been talking about fiction as quite a serious, profound thing.  But sometimes what we need, what reaches the CORE of our hearts, is super silly, goofy fiction!✌😋

This is by no means an extensive list, and I’ve left out classics like Airplane!  These are just 5 of my favorite over-the-top crazy movies! 😆  Caution: Lots of gifs ahead!

#FiveFavesFriday: Goofy Movies!

1. Tank Girl (1995)

The very first one is also my favorite ever 😁 Lori Petty is amazing in the role of Tank Girl, a raunchy badass girl living in a post-apocalyptic, no-raining, controlled-by-Water & Power world.

This movie is based on the Tank Girl comics.  In the film, Tank Girl recruits Jet Girl (Naomi Watts) and goes up against the large corporation, Water & Power.

This is an action movie that is cheesy-hilarious, and should not be taken seriously at all!  And if Lori Petty isn’t enough to get you to watch it, check out Ice-T…

As an anthropomorphic kangaroo 😐😂

2. Mystery Men (1999)

Before superhero movies like Marvel’s Avengers and DC’s Justice League, there was one superhero movie that put great 90s talent together to form a superhero team I mean, hero team  I mean, just a team 😝 All led by (who else?) Ben Stiller.

In this dystopian world, Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear) is top-superhero.  When he gets captured, Furious (Ben Stiller) puts together a team of wannabe superheroes to rescue him.

This movie has actors such as Hank Azaria, Janeane Garofalo, William H. Macy, Kel Mitchell, Paul Reubens, and Tom Waits.

It also has some of the most creative 90s cinematography I’ve ever seen!

gYtuEn7.gifSquad goals…

3. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

This one is less silly/goofy, but over-the-top nonetheless.  I mean, it’s Abraham Lincoln… hunting vampires…  You get the idea.

Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s book of the same title, this movie is a roller coaster ride full of action, adventure, and vampire-killing.

You gotta suspend your disbelief because, although beautiful, this movie has its major WTF moments 😆

It is fun from beginning to end, and the story is pretty interesting!

AwFJ5MISuch a badass! 😆

4. Spiceworld (1997)

We’re back to the 90s and back to a reeeeal goofy-level movie 😀 In case ya didn’t know, the Spice Girls were everywhere for a brief moment in the late 90s.  You couldn’t escape seeing them~ and that was before smartphones!!

tumblr_nvd1s6ozgC1ucbye5o1_400You could also not escape them seeing you too 😐

An oddly prophetic movie, this story shows Ginger Spice (Geri) leaving the Spice Girls, their media conflicts, and their eventual split.  It’s freaky how many of these movie moments came true…

The girls are their stage personas of Baby, Sporty, Scary, Sexy/Ginger, and Posh and the shenanigans are super fun to vicariously experience! 😋

7sjGAmazing special effects included!!

5. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

As a teen, you either liked 10 Things or She’s All That.  But not both.  Never both!! 😝 And if you liked She’s All That, well…

giphyI’m kidding, of course 😉 Or am I…?

10 Things is an updated version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.  It follows Kat Startford (Julia Stiles) as she navigates the sh*tty waters of high school and adolescence.

Hurt by a past experience, Kat only wishes to protect herself and her little sister, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik).  In the hilarious process, she learns what it means to give people a chance and trust again.

A completely ridiculous teen movie that will give you so much nostalgia 😁  Plus, there’s also Heath…

10-things-i-hate-about-you-gif-13We will forever miss you.

Those were my five!  What are yours?

Share your favorite goofy movies in the comments!  I’d love to watch them 😘

Take care,

  1. Talk about rolling back the memory machine. I loved the 90’s. It was almost as crazy as the 80’s. I saw all of those movies but if I had to pick one in terms of plot, acting and the simple fact that I really liked the characters it would have to be 10 things I hate about you.

Great idea. I need to do this sometime.

    1. The 80’s and 90’s gave us some of the most creative movies I’ve ever seen! Let me know if you do this, I’d love to see which movies you pick 😊

      Have a great week,
